We went to the July Pizza and a Movie Night where the theme was Mind Over Matter. We voted on a menu of movies with protagonists who embarked on epic journeys into fantasy to overcome their harsh realities.

Never been to Pizza and a Movie? Well, this is how it works. Each month there’s one theme and three films. We eat pizza then we vote on the movie…mob rule style! This month we watched Pan’s Labyrinth (directed by Guillermo del Toro).

We asked four teens to give you their reviews on the film. Check out what Isabella & Sam (The Sisters that PaaM Together), Deomattie (Last Time PaaMer), and Thatcher (The Newbie) have to say about Pan’s Labyrinth.

How would you sum up the movie in one sentence?

Isabella: A movie jam packed with symbolism, leaving scenes up to interpretation.

Sam: Princess of the underworld wants to go home.

Deomattie: The constant transition between reality and fantasy for a young girl as a form of escapism leads to her destiny.

Thatcher: A girl who is split between the fairytale world and reality is given tasks so that she can be with her true family.

Who would you recommend this movie to?

Isabella: Anyone that likes to watch movies that allows each viewer to interpret things differently.

Sam: To anyone who thinks they won’t like a movie about a princess. It’s a good surprise.

Deomattie: Anyone who’s intrigued by fantasy or who finds comfort in escapism and magical realism.

Thatcher: I would recommend this movie to teenagers and older.

What was your favorite mythical creature in the movie?

A majority said the Pale Man.paleman

Occupation: Monster

Skills: Eyes in hands, appetite

Enjoys: Eating small children

On a scale of 1 to 10 (1= “Hated it”, 10= “My New Favorite”), how would you rate this movie?

Isabella: 5

Sam: 6.5

Deomattie: 7.5

Thatcher: 6

Final Rating: 6 slices6_PizzaSlices_blue
