Arts Partner: City College Center for the Arts
Batoto Yetu has been a fixture in Harlem since 1990, engaging inner city youth in African arts, staging riveting performances around the world, and connecting children to their heritage in meaningful and empowering ways.
In this special holiday performance, Batoto Yetu’s dancers, musicians, and guest artists will present a dynamic blend of ancient and contemporary art forms as they share the life of Queen Nzinga Mbandi, a 17th century queen of the Mbundu people in Angola and a resilient leader who fought against the Portuguese and their expanding slave trade in Central Africa. Experience a journey that bridges pre-colonial history and present day and demonstrates the impact of the African diaspora on modern society.
