Arts Partner: The Orchestra Now

The Orchestra Now (TŌN) is an innovative pre-professional orchestra and master’s degree program at Bard College that performs free concerts in the boroughs of NYC as part of its Around Town series. In this program, conductor Zachary Schwartzman leads the orchestra in an eclectic selection including the sweeping and exhilarating Tchaikosky’s Symphony No. 4– a concert that the whole family can enjoy.

On the Program:

Glinka: Overture from Ruslan and Lyudmila
Heroically rousing. Glinka is considered to be the father of Russian music, a hero to Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Tchaikovsky.

MessiaenL’Ascension
Pensive and reverent. Messiaen described this piece as “four meditations for.orchestra.”

Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4
Journeys from gloom to jubilee. Tchaikovsky composed this piece in the.aftermath of his disastrous marriage.
