RUBÍ Rock & Roll Neoyorquino (The Davilita Project)
Rubí is a straight up Rock & Roll band founded by two New Yorkers: tenor vocalist/lyricist José Joaquín García, black Puerto Rican from the Lower East Side, and composer, arranger and rhythm guitarist Jesse Alexander Myerson, Jewish kid from Washington Heights. Together, they have created an authentic Rock & Roll Neoyorquino band sound, tying together old school styles with a brand new spirit, and carrying the lineage of Puerto Rican/Jewish collaborations throughout music history into the 21st Century. For that purpose, they have assembled a group of seasoned gunslinger New York musicians to round out Rubí: ruthless shredder Elvin Cartagena on guitar, the smooth queen of funk Jessie Cartagena on bass, el maestro Jonathan Hardy on the keys, Urbano “In the Pocket” Sanchez on drums, and barrio boy Chéo Rodriguez on percussion.

“Rubí brings a heavy sound with nasty grooves, performing in Spanish and English with full-throttle urgency. Their mixture of original tunes and old time Boricua classics, injected with Rubí’s special brand of asphalt, creates a unique sonic experience. José and Jesse set out to make a New York sound serious enough to reflect the current moment, and fun enough to keep the people dancing all night — so dance!”
