With renowned period-instrument ensemble, The English Concert Players, New College Choir performs J. S. Bach’s timeless setting of the Passion according to St. John, first heard in Leipzig in 1724, and now an established masterwork of the choral repertoire. With sixteen boy choristers and fourteen adult clerks, the Choir of New College, Oxford, established in 1379, is one the most celebrated and acclaimed choral ensembles in the UK. The English Concert Players enjoys an unsurpassed reputation for inspiring performances of Baroque and Classical repertoire.

PRE-CONCERT TALK on Bach’s “St. John” Passion and Pärt’s “Passio” given by Michael Marissen, the Daniel Underhill Professor Emeritus of Music, Swarthmore College at 6:45 pm in the chapel.
