Taylor Jardine, (aka Tay Jardine) was born on March 7, 1990 and is the lead singer of the pop punk band We Are the In Crowd, also featuring Jordan Eckes, Cameron Hurley, Mike Ferri, and Rob Chianelli. Tay grew up in Liberty, New York, and started singing when she was fourteen years old.
In 2009, Tay was in a band called Sofmoure, which tied for first place in a battle of the bands competition. After the competition, Tay was offered to be a part of the band The In Crowd. After gaining popularity on Myspace, the band’s page was hacked by a former member, but Tay went on YouTube and explained the hacking to the band’s fans. Soon after, The In Crowd was signed to Hopeless Records, and after copyright problems with a Jamaican reggae band with the same name, the band’s name was changed to We Are the In Crowd.
We Are the In Crowd has released an EP in 2010, and two albums in 2011 and 2014. Their music has improved greatly from their first EP five years ago. Tay is an amazing singer, and paired with Jordan Eckes, who sings in their songs almost as much as Tay, their different voices create an amazing combination that pulls you into the music. Tay sings about relatable subjects, and also uses symbolism that I like can be interpreted in different ways. One of my favorite songs, “Dreaming Out Loud,” seems to me to be about someone who is afraid to go out into the real world and live, and is instead stuck inside their own head all the time. You can really hear the passion in Tay’s voice as she sings, and any interpretation you could have of the song’s meaning could be entirely different, which I love about it. We Are the In Crowd continues to gain popularity, and with each album Tay continues to surpass her fans’ expectations.
