Mambo King and timbalero extraordinaire Tito Puente was also an accomplished vibraphone player. The instrument was prominently featured on his early mambo recordings. Felipe Fournier is a percussionist and vibes player from Costa Rica who plays with classic Salsa outfit Our Latin Thing and Ruben Blades. His tribute to Tito Puente emphasizes the King of the Timbales’ Mambo years and vibes performance. Felipe was nominated for a Latin Grammy with Charlie Sepulveda & The Turnaround, and then again in 2009 for a Grammy and a Latin Grammy together with Nestor Torre for their production “Nouveau Latino”.
