“Complex, entertaining, and full of gorgeous art and writing, this is a powerhouse of a book.”– School Library Journal, starred review of The Marvels
“Engrossing, intelligent, beautifully engineered and expertly told in word and image.”
— The New York Times Book Review of Wonderstruck
Brian Selznick, author and illustrator of Wonderstruck and The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which was adapted into the film Hugo by Martin Scorsese, discusses his new book, The Marvels. Two seemingly unrelated stories—one in words, the other in pictures—come together in a story filled with mystery, vibrant characters, surprise twists, heartrending beauty, and Selznick’s most arresting art to date. This event will include readings from the novel, a look at the book’s magnificent artwork, and original music written and performed by Lucas Elliot Eberl. Actress Barbara Barrie will read from selected works by William Shakespeare, who served as inspiration for The Marvels.
“Astonishing and truly marvelous.” –Booklist, starred review of The Marvels
