Stephen Petronio Company returns to The Joyce with the highly anticipated second offering of Bloodlines, Petronio’s project to embrace significant works by the masters who have inspired him. Following last spring’s performance of Cunningham’s RainForest (1968), Petronio presents Trisha Brown’s landmark Glacial Decoy (1979), her first dance for the proscenium stage, featuring Robert Rauschenberg’s iconic visual design and costumes. Petronio plays Brown’s cool, all-female meditation against the heat and volatility of his signature anthem to gender and power, MiddleSexGorge (1990). Rounding out the program is the world premiere of Petronio’s “talking dance,” Big Daddy Deluxe, based on his solo Big Daddy (2014), and expanded here to include his company of formidable dancers.
