Dope was a fantastic movie and was enjoyable, but it needed a much better plot and ending. By that, I mean that the ending and plot weren’t surprising. Dope seemed like an action and comedy movie at first, but then the plot began to seem cliche. The basic plot was good guys are at the wrong place at the wrong time and then they’re in trouble, then they face bad guys and try to make things right and they don’t know who they can trust, but in the end, they still get out of the situation and live happily ever after – so cliche.
What would have happened if that wasn’t the case? Perhaps there would be a better and more surprising ending. I compared this movie to my all-time favorite, Ride Along 2, a movie about a probationary cop named Ben and his “partner” James. There is conflict between the two but they get over it to be cops. There is one part where Ben jumps to take a bullet for his partner and gets shot. Then James shoots the bad guy, the bad guy gets up and starts to shoot, and James uses his partner as a shield. This part I found very non-cliche because who would think that his partner would use him as a shield.
The characters in Dope were very good actors and I thought that they handled the situation very well. One part of the plot that I did like was when Malcolm, the main character, went to his interview and found out that he was lied to and that he was with a group that couldn’t solve his problems. Rather, they were not even part of their situation. I also liked how the guy actually understood his situation and told him that he should trust himself for him to trust anyone else – that was how the problem got solved.
