Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater presents the 3^rd edition of its growing 21 Islands International Short Film Fest to take place on February 7-10, 2019, in the South Bronx. The film festival is curated by filmmaker and media producer Melisa Ramos, in partnership with Louis E. Perego Moreno (Tío Louie) of Prime Latino Media, the largest network of Latino multimedia-makers on the East Coast.

The festival shines a spotlight on island life in all its richness and diversity. What are the particular and distinguishing features of island life and creative expression? Are there cultural, philosophical, and aesthetic preoccupations shared by island artists and audiences? How do the histories of different islands from around the world resemble and contrast each other? What imprint, if any, does island life leave on film genre, style, and tone?

21 Islands 3^rd Edition will feature animation, experimental, and live action films from: Australia, Canary Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Indonesia, Ireland, Ischia, Islas Malvinas, Japan, Kalamata, Montreal, Philippines, Princes’ Islands, Puerto Rico, Sardinia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tenerife, and United Kingdom. Each festival screening is a kaleidoscope of the real and the imagined, bursting with memorable stories and characters, and plenty of audiovisual brio. 5 fun-packed screenings over 4 days including a special selection of past festival winners!

   When a drunken night out gets the better of him, Joe’s inner self steps in to set him on the road to recovery where a killer hangover awaits.
3. ACCENTANOS. Sardinia, Italy – 19 Min. Director: Antonio Maciocco.
   A 100-year-old man has had enough of living. The unexpected arrival of a granddaughter will give him back his will of living and loving.
4. WE ARE GOING TO PARIS. Puerto Rico – 8:89 Min. Director: David Norris.
   An elderly married couple try to rob a bank with the purpose of saving their house.
5. SHIPWRECKED. UK – 4 Min. Director: Sabrina Marengo
   A castaway’s lonely life takes an unexpected turn when an unfamiliar object gets washed up on the beach.
6. CHINO DOMINICANO. Dominican Republic – 5 Min. Director: Susibell Espaillat.
   A short documentary that features the Chinese-Dominican community in the Dominican Republic and their idiosyncrasy.
7. FAKE NEWS. Greece – 15 Min. Director: Dimitris Katsimiris.
   Trying to get more subscribers for their channel, a couple of YouTubers are planning to direct the raping of a girl by two black guys.
8. ROBOTS NEED NOT APPLY. Ireland – 3.33 Min. Director: Tyler Lynch
   Robots have taken over the labor force. Humans are growing bored with nothing to do and have started taking jobs back from the robots.
9. OSLO. Cuba – 13 Min. Director. Luis Ernesto Doñas.
   In a bizarre way, an elderly man fulfills his wife’s dream of seeing Oslo.
