“KYLE ABRAHAM IS PHENOMENAL.” — THE NEW YORK TIMES

Riffing on the Pinocchio fable in a search to become “real,” choreographic chameleon and Bessie Award-winner Kyle Abraham takes a darkly humorous approach to gender roles and masculinity in the black community and the quest for acceptance in the world of hip-hop celebrity. Blending fast and furious contemporary dance with athletic movement derived from the street, this ensemble work ponders the price of conformity and the ways that identity is formed.

“[Abraham] uses the full arsenal of personal experience, dance techniques, and musical genres to strike a universal theme of what it means to be human.” Read more in professor Pamela Newkirk’s Indefinite Article.
