A Special JOBIM Birthday Celebration Brunch and 50 year anniversary of “The Girl from Ipanema”
Sunday, January 25, 2015
Showtime @ 12:30 PM
Doors open @ 11:00 AM
Vocalist Julie Eigenberg – known to her fans as Julie E. – & Manhattan Transfer’s pianist Yaron Gershovsky with World Guitar Master Andres Laprida team up to pay tribute to Brazilian jazz legend Tom Jobim, king of the bossa nova and Grammy-winning composer of favorites like “The Girl From Ipanema.”
The Grammy-winning Gershovsky is not only the keyboardist for the world-renowned vocal group, but he’s also their musical director and arranger, while Julie E. co-wrote one of the harmonizers’ biggest hits, “Why Not!”. Her own sound is a smooth mix of pop and Latin, but she also displays a soulful command of Brazilian Jazz.
For this Special JOBIM Birthday Brunch, joined by World Guitar Master composer Andres Laprida, the will celebrates the sounds of Brazilian music masters Vinicius de Moraes and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Laprida has earned international acclaim in his own right, having traveled the globe playing concert halls, jazz festivals and ballets, as well as writing scores for both the big and small screen. The prolific performer will pay tribute to the iconic composers who’ve inspired his life’s work, playing their classic bossa nova and Brazilian jazz pieces.
Boris Kozlov (bass) and Norberto Goldberg (drums) will join the ensemble.
