Arts Partner: ArtsConnection Teen Programs
In response to the reelection of George W. Bush in 2004, writer Toni Morrison, while in conversation with a friend, had an “ah-ha” moment which produced the quote destined to be the rallying cry to artists around the world: This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal. Heeding this call, ArtsConnection will create space for teens and supportive adults to learn how contemporary artists incorporate activism into their work to help, specifically, shift conversations about race in America. This space will center teen voices and encourage creative response to the current moment so teens feel empowered to create a better society for their future.
