The Afro Sambas Ensemble

On the 50th anniversary of “Os Afro Sambas” groundbreaking Grammy win, an ensemble made up of New York’s top contemporary musicians will pay homage to Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes Brazilian-jazz legacy.

World Guitar Master Andres Laprida & drummer Helio Schiavo, who was the key factor in the original sound of Baden Powell ,(one of Brazil’s most respected and gifted guitar player and composer). team up to pay tribute to Brazilian jazz legends.

Introduced to the public at a young age by the Brazilian music masters Antonio Carlos Jobim , Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes, Argentine guitarist Andres Laprida has always had an affinity for the rhythms and sounds of Brazil. A prolific performer, composer and producer, he has racked up rave reviews from audiences, musicians and critics worldwide for his brilliant guitar skills. His unique sound matches any style, and Laprida has recorded with a wide range of artists, including Gato Barbieri, Phillipe Saisse, New London Consort Orchestra and DJ Spooky. At this appearance, Laprida will pay tribute to the samba sounds of Brazilian greats Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes.
