Arts Partner: New York City Master Chorale

Artistic Director Thea Kano leads the New York City Master Chorale and Manhattan School of Music’s Chamber Orchestra in Vivaldi’s Gloria and Four Seasons. Joining the musical forces will be Dakshina Dance Company, performing new choreography by Daniel Phoenix Singh.
“We have interwoven the four movements of Four Seasons with the 12 movements of the Gloria, juxtaposing classical Western music and traditional Indian dance in a dialogue on the merging of these cultures,” says Artistic Director Thea Kano. “The choreography will reflect the newness of spring, the lightness of summer, the calm of fall, and the stillness of winter.”
This marks the Chorale’s second collaboration with a dance company; to mark their tenth anniversary in 2016, they collaborated with Gallim Dance Company, Manhattan School of Music, and other partner organizations to present Carmina Burana, with new choreography by Andrea Miller. Notes Kano, “Collaborations such as these are at the root of the mission of NYCMC, which is to connect people through choral music by presenting vibrant and high-quality concerts that draw inspiration from the distinct diversity and talent of New York City.”
Founded in 2005 by Artistic Director Thea Kano, New York City Master Chorale connects people through choral music by presenting high-quality concerts inspired by the distinct energy, diversity, and talent of New York City. The Chorale, a 70-voice auditioned community chorus, seeks to engage and inspire audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and musical experience by performing a challenging repertoire of traditional and contemporary works, working in collaboration with other artists and organizations who share our vision, and bringing our music into the community through our outreach and education programs.
