a festival inspired by Susan Glaspell, American drama’s best kept secret
Susan Glaspell is a playwright, actress, journalist, novelist, and one of the founders of Provincetown Players, the first modern American theater company. She has been heralded as America’s first important 20th century female playwright. Her repertoire of short works not only reflect the political pulse of her time, they continue to shed light on the current female perspective. And yet, not many people know her name. This is why British theater critic Michael Billington dubbed her “American drama’s best-kept secret.”
To honor this auspicious woman, Hunger & Thirst Theatre is thrilled to present TELLING TRIFLES, a festival inspired by the pioneering playwright Susan Glaspell. TELLING TRIFLES surrounds a production of Susan Glaspell’s signature one-act play, Trifles, with performances, open workshops, and readings of new short works inspired by Ms. Glaspell, all written and directed by today’s pioneering female theatre artists.
