feat. EMILIE SURTEES & PAPA J. & MO’ SOUL
Emilie Surtees
Emilie Surtees is a vocalist who finds & appreciates the underlying meaning and subtleties of a song. She considers herself a listener first and then an interpreter of music. Her phrasing often mirrors the passion & conviction that the song evokes within her. When you hear Emilie sing for the very first time, you will experience how her soft, variable tones will lull you into a false sense of calm security; and then, at a moment’s notice, you will be amazed as her powerful voice fills the room and leaves you absolutely breathless. Emilie Surtees’ inspiration & influences range from 60s & 70s Soul/R&B and Pop Singers to Contemporary Singer Songwriters such as Maxwell, Adele, & Pharrell. Her debut CD “Reflections of You” is filled with six captivating songs she wrote and explores the internal ecstasy and turmoil of Love.
Papa J. & Mo’ Soul
From Stevie Wonder’s early days as a child prodigy signed by Berry Gordy through classic albums of the ’70s and ’80s, Papa J. & Mo’ Soul pay tribute to this one-of-a-kind artist. You’ll hear the unforgettable ballads like “Isn’t She Lovely” and soul classics such as “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” that earned Wonder dozens of Grammys, international stardom and a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Wonder is equally at home crooning romantic tunes like “My Cherie Amour” and “I Just Called to Say I Love You” as he is belting out the irresistible funk of “Living for the City” and “Superstition,” a versatility that Harlem-based blues/soul band Papa J. & Mo’ Soul will recreate for this concert at New York’s famed B.B.King Blues Club.
