Being punched in the face in a raging mosh pit was only one of the perks for being at the Irving Plaza Theater on January 28, 2012, the other would have to be the amount of crowd surfers that appeared. The post- hardcore and pop punk band Falling in Reverse stopped in New York City towards the end of their tour. Falling in Reverse headlined the night while the bands Life as a Ghost, Skip the Foreplay and Oh Sleeper played before them. The band consists of singer, Ronnie Radke, guitarist, Jacky Vincent, drummer, Ryan Seaman, bassist, Ron Ficarro and rhythm guitarist Derek Jones. The band played most of their hit songs, including songs that Ronnie wrote in his old band Escape the Faith. To end the intense night, front man Ronnie Radke, ended the set with Falling in Reverses most famous song “The Drug in Me is You“.

The song “The Drug in Me is You” was written while Ronnie was in jail. The song is about the events leading up to his jail time and during it. Almost every lyric in the song is a metaphor used to mean something else. One lyric “I heard a knock upon my door the other day/ I opened it to find death staring/ In my face” is stating his everyday struggle of being at the brink of death, during his drug period as well as during his jail time.

When the song first starts, Ronnie sings the first lyric with just a drum set backing him. Every time  there was a break in the verse both the bassist and the guitarist would play a succession of notes that were distorted and staccato. The way that he did this was sort of interesting because when ever he stopped singing you sort of hang onto the lyre waiting for what he’s going to sing next. After the first verse the basset and guitarist have their own short solo that set the mood and course for the rest of the song. When the chorus begins, Ronnie’s hand gestures, hang banging, and jumping around make the crowd get lost in his music even more. If you are interested in intense lyrics, heavy beats, and an all out wild performance and crowd than Falling in Reverse is definitely the band to check out.
