Kinky Boots is the witty story of a British shoemaker who is forced to take over a failing business and with the luck of a flamboyant drag queen manages to turn the business around.

This plot of this play was based off of the movie. Charlie Price (Stark Sands) is the sole heir to his father’s shoe company, one that is failing. Charlie, not so pleased with this arrangement, is ready to close down the business until he happens upon a somebody. A bright, colorful, sexy somebody. That somebody is Lola (Billy Porter), a red hot cross dresser. Together, the two come up with a mind blowing concept that would change the fashion world forever, heels made to support the weight of a man. Despite some tribulations, the pair manage to create this cutting edge creation and bond while doing it.

It’s not an everyday occurrence that you see men dressed as women, dancing, in heels. But they killed it. With daring sexy choreography, by Jerry Mitchell, also the director, “Lola’s Angels” were the highlight of the show with their high kicks and quick splits. All of the tunes that these vixens danced to were written and produced by the girl who just wants to have fun, Cyndi Lauper. From catchy show tunes to soulful pop, Lauper captures the essence of the show perfectly. The lyrics are whimsical and fit right into the play’s canny sense of humor.

Another triumph of this show, was the flawless performance by the actors. Stark Sands and Billy Porter execute their characters faultlessly, and make you feel like you’re a part of the show. Not only do they act, but they sing their hearts out with passion that will leave you with tears of understanding or tears of laughter.

Kinky Boots is a show that is not only hysterical, but also provides provoking thoughts for the mind. Would you be willing to try something impossible despite the world telling you you’re crazy? Would you be able to give up a life you think you wanted for one your parents’ planned for you? Would you be able to accept someone for who they are no matter what?
