“Traveling, breathing, traveling, breathing, traveling, breathing,” chants Reggie Wilson as he takes us on a spiritual journey in his solo INTRODUCTION. We travel to Milwaukee, New York City, back to Milwaukee, then to Trinidad and finally to Africa. We feel the influence of each location and I personally relate to the Trinidadian components, being that my father is from the island.

Wilson talks a lot about the African Diaspora, reminding us that African culture has been diffused throughout the Caribbean and Americas.

This is not a typical dance performance. Live music throughout the show keeps us energized and interested. Rhetta Aleong, and Lawrence Harding accompany Wilson, sharing songs from their respective countries. Their distinct and powerful voices express the diversity of black culture.

The audience gets to sing, laugh and clap along with the performers. This makes for a great experience– warm, strong, and infectious.  Wilson’s effort to create a show that takes his audience into account but still conveys his vision is appreciated. We leave the theater feeling glorious.
