This is an amazing exhibition! It’s mind-blowing how each of us has unique expressions to illustrate feelings and emotions. This exhibition captures the beauty of this human trait. It shows how our expressions can represent jealousy, hatred, love, as well as more specific emotions like, feeble false laughter and scornful disgust. It also shows how visual representation of expressions can be used to support characterization in stories. While viewing this exhibition it is fun to try getting into character and taking note of how your expression of these emotions might differ from that being displayed. Enjoy!
Ronald K. Brown/ Evidence: A Dance Company
Ronald K. Brown is a Brooklyn based Dance Company that incorporates traditional African dance with spoken word and contemporary dance. These performances express emotions and tell stories in a mesmerizing way. allowing the audience to not only see these expressions but to feel them as well. There is a loud feeling of transcendence when watching dance performances that convinces you that you know exactly how they feel. This is a part of their 30th anniversary celebration and showcases a captivating mix of Ronald Brown’s works from across the decades. It comes in two parts; Program A runs from Nov 12-14 and Program B runs from the 19-22. This dance company is highly revered and these shows will be amazing, I highly recommend it!
Studio Museum of Harlem: Expanding the Walls

Expanding The Walls is a photography program that allows participants to work with professionals to explore issues related to the culture and environment. Students use works from James VanDerZee as a base for discussion, and in the end their work is exhibited beside his photographs. This program runs from January to August and is very engaging. I have seen the exhibition for the previous Expanding the Walls program and have met some of the student artists. They all have great testimonials from participating in the program and have produced remarkable work. I urge you to read more about this program and consider applying. The application deadline is Wednesday, November 25, 2015.
