I bought my Mom tickets to see the The Lion King – actually it was a gift from Dad for all of us.  Me, my sister and my Mom.  We thought we were going to see the live show like the movie we’ve grown up watching.  Never did we expect to see the show we were seeing.  Where do I begin?

We arrive at the Minskoff Theatre at about 7:40pm we knew my Dad got us some good seats when we were told go up only one level and down to the first entrance.  We walked in and the stage was right there, we were seated dead center and to be honest any seat in this theatre would be great.  We imagined the theater to be bigger than what we saw but we didn’t say much.  We took our seats and waited for the show to begin.  The lady who showed us to our seats told us if you are about to use the bathroom do it now the beginning of the show is the best part.

The lights went down and we hear singing begin then we look and there are people from the show on the left and right side.  Not only that but coming along the sides are the animals down the aisles.  Not real animals but they may as well be – these were life sized puppets so it seemed and the people were created around them so their bodies were incorporated into the puppets. It was an amazing start we were all impressed.  The music was wonderful and the voices were just like the show.  People applauded after each act which isn’t something I’m used to most people hold applause ‘till the end of the first act or the end of the show but this was scene after scene.  The characters came out and you can clearly see who was who.  Disney did a great job with this musical.  The costumes were all amazing works of art.  To see how each character was incorporated into the person and how adults and children watched with full attention.  No part was a small part and everyone made the show amazing.  In fact, I know it was so good that I knew it’s not something we usually cover at High 5 but I felt the need to share it with everyone because if you do have an opportunity to go and see it – then take it, it’s worth going to.

Intermission came and we couldn’t believe how fast time flew by.  We took a break and stepped out to the waiting area to stretch our legs and check out the souvenir shop and found some great items.  We always buy a magnet if we attend a show it’s never more than $10 so it’s a great memory of where we’ve been.  Here they sold any two magnets, key chains or pins for $15. Not to bad a deal so we ended up with a magnet and a keychain.  We also snagged a few shots of the costumes and headpieces on display before heading back to our seats.

During the end of the show we saw Simba go from Cub to full Lion, along with all the other characters.  The use of the small stage was amazing how things moved and looked like they changed every few minutes.  It truly kept our attention throughout the entire performance.  If I had to pick a favorite scene it would have to be the very beginning when the animals make their entrance if you never know this is going to happen it’s pretty amazing you are so busy looking all over at the wonderment of it all.

I didn’t go into too much detail about the show, I’d hate to ruin it for you but I will tell you that you will get your money’s worth for sure.  Bottom line is if you have a chance to go see it – do so you won’t be disappointed – we weren’t.  It ended up being a great Mother’s Day present for Mom. J
