All of you romance lovers out there I come to you today with advice: please take your 7-13 dollars and put it into a savings account or give it to charity or use it to set a bon-fire… look whatever you do just don’t spend it on The Lucky One, a movie that fails to live up to the hype on practically every scene.
The movie starts off with U.S. Marine Logan (Zac Efron) a marine who returns to Colorado from Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive: a photograph he found of a woman he does not know. With this picture luck follows him wherever he goes. Logan walks to Louisiana from Colorado to find this woman whom he credits for saving him. He is able to find her in a small town and learns her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling). He shows up at her door and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel without her knowing he has a photograph of her. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.
The idea of the plot is great but when you think about it, it sounds very creepy and awkward. I don’t think anyone would want to walk a thousand miles away from home just to find a girl/boy you don’t know anything about. What made it so awkward was that he finally finds her but he is very quiet for a few min and just stands there staring at her.
The acting in this movie was horrendous. Zac Efron just made this movie terrible with his acting. All he did was stare, he hardly spoke in the movie and just walked by himself. That’s it. I understand that marines at war are traumatized but the director just made Zac a creep and a stalker.
Taylor Schilling wasn’t really the right girl in the movie. I would have preferred a different girl to be Zac’s lover, and plus she looks a lot older than Zac in this movie. I just don’t see that this could be a romance. The book the movie is based on looks like a good idea but these two developing a romance was just not right. It seems to me that the developers were not paying attention to the book to see how they can develop a good relationship between Zac and Taylor.
The Lucky One is a not a terrible movie, it has a good idea but the movie just doesn’t make the cut for everybody to love. It should have just stayed as a book, everybody out there go home and read the book don’t waste your time. The story is bad, the acting is horrible and the movie feels rushed. I give The Lucky One one a 5.5 out of 10.

Even though your review doesn’t give The Lucky One a high score, I am still tempted to see it. I love the book by Nicholas Sparks and the last two books that were turned into movies were good. I will take you up on your advice and rent it instead through Blockbuster @ Home. Blockbuster lets me add upcoming movie releases to my queue and when the movie is released, it comes right to my mailbox. Now I don’t have to wait in line at the kiosk only to find that all copies are already rented. A Dish co-worker told me about Blockbuster and after trying it, I decided that I’d stick with it. I think that Zac Efron is at a crossroads in his life where he’s not sure what he will do. This is a more mature role than any he has ever played and hopefully it will be worth renting.
