We went to the December Pizza and a Movie Night where the theme was FIGHT THE FUTURE: Utopias, Dystopias, and Anything in Between. Never been to Pizza and a Movie? Well, this is how it works. Each month there’s one theme and three films. We eat pizza then we vote on the movie…mob rule style! This month we watched Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

We asked four teens to give you their reviews of the film. Check out what Max (The Veteran PaaMer), Keiny (The TRaC Star) and Alinah and Micah (The TAC Leaders) have to say about Children of Men.

How would you sum up the movie in one sentence?

Alinah & Micah: It’s set in a time in which all the nations of the world have collapsed except for England, which is fighting a huge illegal immigration issue because of all the refugees seeking safety in a world where the women are infertile and no children have been born for two decades.

Keiny: A film that contains a monologue that could be defined as liquid gold.

Max: No baby = Problems, Baby= Mo’ Problems

Who would you recommend this movie to?

Alinah & Micah: We would recommend this movie to those who are interested in the themes of dystopian society, illegal immigration, and how differences in backgrounds shape our interactions with one another. It’s a science-fiction film but it covers current day themes that we read about in our newspapers today.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (1= “Hated it”, 10= “My New Favorite”), how would you rate this movie?

Max: 8

Keiny: 9.5

Alinah & Micah: We decided on rating this movie as a 7 because there’s no doubt it’s an excellent, thought-provoking film with great cinematography that we appreciated but, in the end, we didn’t fall madly in love with it. It’s definitely a movie that’s worth seeing twice; however, and we would probably even get more out of it the second time around.
