Kinky Boots is a musical about a man named Charlie Price who has just inherited a failing shoe company after the death of his father. He is taken on a hilarious, bittersweet journey in which he meets a rising drag queen and finds the love of his life.

With a book written by Harvey Fierstein, a four time Tony award winner, this show is a hit directed and choreographed by Tony award winner Jerry Mitchell, with lyrics written by Cyndi Lauper, also known for her single “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” The great cast including Stark Sands recently of  American Idiot, Billy Porter from DreamGirls, Annaleigh Ashford, from in Wicked, and other great cast members. Sands and Porter make a great duo, with one the son of a shoemaker and the other an undiscovered boxer. There is a great difference between the character’s status. Wild card Annaleigh Ashford  plays Lauren who starts as a small influence on Sands, but then encourages him to follow his dreams.

All of these actors give amazing performances, especially when Charlie and Lola’s sing “Sex is in the Heel” (which you can listen to on their interactive website.The crowd goes wild, as everyone in the audience is brought to their feet. I could not stop watching this show; it is a very alluring. This was a great musical. I loved the singing and the costumes by Gregg Barnes. They were gorgeous, such as the boots designed with the flag of Britain, or the red dress. I would recommend this play to anyone who loves flamboyant outfits and great actors.
