Ever wanted to see New York City from far away? Live in the city, but want to get away from it all for a short while?

Then, come to Governors Island, one of the many historical landmarks in New York, just a couple miles out from the city. The only way to get there is by taking the ferry from Battery Park; and the best part: it’s free! The island preserves historical locations from the Revolutionary War. There are houses that used to house members of the Coast Guard and their families back when the Island was a military fort.  The island holds weekly cultural events. There are many activities to do such as bike riding.

All the excitement takes place in the middle of the island.  Biking is allowed and it’s a great way to see the island. There’s a miniature golf course unlike any other golf course I’ve ever seen. If you’re looking for something fun to do for the summer, Governors Island is a part of NYC’s past that has come into the present. Witnessing what the island has to offer is a priceless memory. I recommend the Castle Williams tour; it will leave you breathless.

Governors Island is a place of culture and fun for the whole family. This is a vacation spot you could literally walk to. Governors Island closes for the fall on September 30, so there’s still time to check it out!
