In 1980, Blue Man Group staged their first show in New York City.  Now nearly 30 years later the wildly successful group has grown to over 60 blue men.  The show is currently being played in seven places around the world (New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando, Berlin, and Zurich).

As soon as you enter the theater, you are surrounded by a tangle of tubes and you realize that this show won’t be like any other show you’ve ever seen.  When the show starts you are immersed in an amazing performance of sights and sounds (even though no sounds come out of their Blue mouths).  The performers teach you all the basics of how to be a rock star covering the basic head bob to the one armed fist pump.  Besides the tutorial on becoming a rock star there is also a dummy’s guide on the history of animation.

Blue Man Group is extremely unique and is almost impossible to describe it in a few sentences.  They perform a high tech vaudeville act which utilizes video, percussion and simple human tricks like catching paint balls in their mouth and spitting them onto a blank canvas, creating a modern art picture (which can be purchased at the end of the show).  They had an amazing finale with strobe lights.  As the strobe lights went on, it created a glow-in-the-dark effect, turning everything white blue.  White toilet paper started rolling down from the ceiling creating an amazing effect.

This show is for all ages the kids will be pleased with the lights as well as the special effects.  The adults will enjoy the comedy and everyone will enjoy the music. There is no audience too sophisticated, or too unsophisticated, for Blue Man Group.  It’s about as universal as the theater gets, and I defy anyone to avoid having an amazing time.
