Jeton Neziraj: The Internationals
Kosovo/Greece/New York. Theatre performance.

Bill Clinton, Mother Teresa, Marina Abramovich, NGO workers, but also nameless civilians, parade through the 26 different vignettes of Jeton Neziraj’s play that talks about the war in Kosovo, and the role of the international community in building the new nation. Using facts, satire, actual and imaginary events and encounters, Neziraj exposes the hypocrisy of those profiting from war and pays tributes to its countless anonymous victims. The play premiered in 2016 in Prishtina. This will be the first time it is presented in New York.

“This is not the first play in which Jeton Neziraj, the most prolific playwright in Kosovo for more than a decade now, utilizes pop culture to create his characters. It seems that his expression is becoming more brave, provocative and Brechtian on many levels; his language more piercing, raw, yet poetic…” (Fjolla Hoxha, The Theatre Times).
