10471224_749886078440160_3196481975892856011_nLa Mecánica Popular is a Brooklyn-based Psychedelic Salsa group led by Efraín Rozas. Their sound is steeped in the roots of 1970’s-era Salsa Dura, yet incorporates a heavy dose of modern gadgets – a unique blend of processed Peruvian-style guitar licks & experimental synths, sounds and textures.

They released their first album in late 2013 on the all-vinyl record label Names You Can Trust. The album was produced by Xuxi Lazzaro (Rita Indiana, Juan Luis Guerra). Among the great musicians on the record, the band brought on Fania star Louis Bauzo (Tito Puente, Celia Cruz) on percussion as a special guest! The record has received endorsements and spins from global trendsetters notables Gilles Peterson, Quantic & Bobbito to name a few.

Like their studio album, their band’s live performances have ben critically acclaimed, and were chosen by Juanes as one of the Top 3 Latin Acts in the US [“La banda suena de puta madre!”]. They were recently apart of New York’s biggest outdoor festival, Central Park’s Summerstage, for the FANIA 50th Anniversary celebration. They have been featured in numerous media outlets & cultural institutions including WNYC’s Soundheck with Juana Molina, the Queens museum, Brooklyn museum, BBC, CNN, Washington Post, Daily News, Telemundo and Mega TV among others.
