ArturoOFarrill&thAfroLatinJazzOrchestraatSymphonySpacephotoDavidGartenMultiple GRAMMY Award winners Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra (ALJO) close out their Symphony Space season on May 1 & 2, 2015 with a live presentation of the works featured on their latest album Cuba: The Conversation Continued, recorded in December, 2014 at the Adala Studios in Havana, during the historic announcement of change in the status of US and Cuban relations. Cuba: The Conversation Continued features O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra teaming up with today’s premier Cuba-based composers and notable American artists as they collectively pick up the legacy of Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo’s groundbreaking work in the ’40s.

Música Nueva 7 represents the Alliance’s continued commitment to new music that expands the boundaries of Big Band Afro Latin Jazz. The program will also include the recently commissioned piece by the Apollo Theater, the “Afro Latin Jazz Suite,” penned by O’Farrill. Música Nueva 7- Cuba: The Conversation Continued will include appearances by virtuoso Rudresh Mahanthappa, NYC-based composer Michele Rosewoman and three composers from Cuba will perform, including Yasek Manzano,”Cotó” (Juan de la Cruz Antomarchi) , and Alexis Bosch.
