A cold Saturday night couldn’t deplete the warmth of an intimate setting at the Abingdon Theatre Company for a performance of March Madness. A small low budget newspaper keeping up on the latest pharmaceutical news is the 9-to-5 for Maury, Carl, Kim, Herb, and Nick. Kim, Kyle, and Maury have problems of their own. Kim has a sister with multiple sclerosis and has to look after her. Kyle’s young daughter has been from doctor to doctor, still without a clue as to what’s wrong with her. Maury has no patience for Nick, an ambitious person who has an attitude with everyone else in the office.

In response to a struggling economy and a stressful job, where the paycheck just doesn’t cut it, Maury, a foul mouth journalist with bigger ambitions than writing articles on cosmetics and candy, raises the ante on their annual March Madness sports game pool. This pool serves as a fun distraction from the stressful day at work. This year the pool will serve as a chance of a lifetime for one person to leave the hell on earth that they call a job, to live their dreams. The play shows a real depiction of stress and excitement of taking on risks and is surprisingly funny. The madness stemming from a small company sports pool creates a great comedy for many to enjoy.
