Mirror Mirror is nothing special for anybody that loved the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937 film). Mirror Mirror reflects the basic elements of the original, but the changes don’t add anything new and interesting to the classic story. We already know what happens in Snow White– and adding some more comedy and more plot does not cut it. Is this a good movie? No.

The film opens with Queen Clementianna (Julia Roberts) narrating the tale; which she says is actually her story, not Snow White’s. Snow White’s mother died after giving birth to her. Snow White’s father, the King (Sean Bean), then raised Snow White so that she could rule the kingdom one day. His new wife is Clementianna, the most beautiful woman in the land (well almost). One day, the king leaves to fight a great evil that has invaded the land, leaving Snow White his favorite dagger. He rides off into the forest and never comes back. Clementianna rules in his place. Ten years later Snow White (Lily Collins) is turning eighteen and has spent much of her life sequestered in the palace.

Mirror Mirror makes a very lazy attempt to tell a story and its comedy does not make it any better. The worst part of the movie was that the Seven Dwarfs are not even funny and memorable. They don’t have the same names as the original characters. The new names are very lame, and the Dwarfs don’t show that much personality— they all look and do the same thing. With such bland personalities, the Dwarfs should have been left out of the movie.

Lilly Collins is not bad, but she doesn’t really do much to play a princess, nor does she look like a good one. Similarly, Armie Hammer is not really a charming guy to play as a Prince, and his acting was as bad as Lilly Collins’. Julia Roberts wasted her time being in this film, and does not look evil at all as the Queen. At least the effects were decent. None of these actors make this movie any good. Adding some Bollywood flavor to the mix of the movie just makes it worse. This movie is appropriate for the whole family but overall it’s just not worth watching. I would recommend that everybody should just see Snow White and The Huntsmen, as it couldn’t get any worse than Mirror Mirror.

Mirror Mirror is not a terrible movie it just does not do anything interesting for anybody that loves love stories and princesses. The movie has a dumb story; it’s very short and does not give enough detail for anybody that loves Snow White. If I were you I would just stay away from this movie. I give Mirror Mirror a sad 5.5 out of 10.
