Misha Kahn’s Midden Heap @ Friedman Benda Gallery was the diamond in the rough for our first outing touring several art exhibits around Chelsea. While the experience exploring several artist works around the neighborhood was new and interesting, none of the shows had the impact or left an impression on the group more than this one, and it wasn’t even on our itinerary. Located on the ground floor of the same building where Jill Freedman’s work was on display, the art in this show offered both whimsy and an environmental message. Kahn has fashioned strange and wonderful objects and imagined creatures made of trash he collected from Dead Horse Bay in the Rockaways. This was an awesome exhibit, that almost made us feel like we were paying a visit to Bikini Bottom.
