High 5 teens were invited to a special screening of The Way Way Back, a new film starring Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, and more, to be released in select theaters this July. Teen Advisory Council’s Adonys shares his thoughts on the film below.

Wow… The Way Way Back was a really cool movie! I was really impressed by the story and I believe a lot of teenagers will be able to identify with the timid yet spontaneous character Duncan, who Liam James brings to life. This movie will definitely be a great summer film opportunity for teens to check out with their families and friends. As a member of the audience, I can honestly say that we were all having a blast! I laughed a lot and really enjoyed Sam Rockwell’s humorous yet esoteric character, Owen. Every character has a different perspective to offer, comedic scenes and beautiful character traits.

As a young actor myself, I noticed that it seemed as though everyone on set had a great deal of fun and excellent communication. If I could describe this film in three words it’d be: fun, clever and whimsical! I really enjoyed the storyline and how it goes from light humor in the beginning when Trent, Duncan’s step-father (Steve Carell), asks him: “On a scale from one to ten, what do you think you are?” all the way to when Duncan pushes Trent and Trent tells his wife/Duncan’s mother (Toni Collette) to “Do Something!” This film really speaks to the viewers, which is important considering the fact that receiving a reaction from your audience is what great filmmaking is all about. I recommend this film to anyone and everyone who wants to have a good laugh, all while getting to know some very distinct characters.
