Even if you walked in late, you will enjoy the wonderful sounds of jazz music coming from Papo Vazquez (trombone), Richard Germanson (piano), Joel Mateo (drums), and Alexander “Apolo” Ayala Berrios (bass). The head of the show, Papo Vazquez, founding member of the Fort Apache Band, Batacumbele, principal trombonist for the Tito Puente Jazz Ensemble, and Grammy nominee for Best Latin Jazz Album in 2009, sails towards new horizons with his group Mighty Pirates Troubadours.

Papo Vasquez

The Papo Vasquez Quartet performs at the Pregones Theater in the Bronx. It is a small and comfortable venue that will keep you fascinated and observant to the music that is playing right in front of you. The space is just right. Because of the limited space, the audience is kept small and so close to the musicians that you can see how they’re playing their instrument. It is very intimate and you can listen to the music loud and clear. It was a Saturday night, and everyone was having a great time. The audience was clapping, people were laughing, and the sound of beautiful jazz music was calm and soothing. It is a great way to end a night if you want to end it relaxed. People were nodding their heads and stomping their feet to the rhythm and so were the musicians. You can tell the musicians are enjoying themselves and having fun performing. Papo Vazquez is being himself the whole time. He was drinking several beverages like water, coffee, and Gatorade which is unique. The group was laughing, collaborating, giving each other signals and smiling, and making silly jokes to get the audience to laugh and enjoy their time with them. It was a fun experience and you can feel a connection with them. They’re very nice people and put on a splendid show!
