This month we hosted the Fight Like a Girl edition in honor of Women’s History’s Month. We presented a movie menu driven by strong female characters persisting in the face of great, seemingly insurmountable odds.

Thanks to the continued generosity of the team at HBO we had the pleasure of returning to their beautiful terrace & theater!

Here’s what the teen audience had to say…

Every PaaM night, we ask our teens to give us their honest reviews of the winning movie. We then select four voices that capture the range of opinions and critiques. Read what Bonelyn (The Newbie), Kia (PaaM Regular), Madison (Reigning PaaM Reviewer), and Sophia (TAC Star) thought about the indie thriller.

How would you sum up this movie in one senetence?

Bonelyn: A movie about a strong young girl that feels like real life in terms of speed and events.

Kia:  Jennifer Lawrence takes care of her two siblings and goes through a bunch of creepy characters to find her dad.

Madison: A realistic tale of death within a family that does not value family (except Ree and her siblings).

Sophia: It was so intense, but was portrayed normally which is disturbing in itself.

Who would you recommend this movie to?

Bonelyn: Someone who likes movies that are realistic and is interested in feminism.

Kia: If you’re interested in a strong heroine in a nail biter family drama that explores a rough, isolated part of America you don’t often see in movies.

Madison:  A person who likes movies that are super realistic and raw.

Sophia: Probably my parents. They find movies like this fascinating.
