Sometimes life puts serious pressure on you and brings you down, what do you do? That’s exactly the question this semester’s Film Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) set out to explore in their We Started from the Bottom Now We’re Here edition. They created a menu of films that explore different protagonists facing stressful situations and overcoming their darkest moments.

Here were the contenders:

And the winner was…

The Skeleton Twins

R | 1h 33min | 2014

Director: Craig Johnson

Stars: Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Luke Wilson

Here’s what the teen audience had to say…

FINAL RATING: 7 out of 8 slices

Every PaaM night, we ask our teens to give us their honest reviews of the winning movie. We then select voices that capture the range of opinions and critiques. Read what Julia & Jenna (Film TRaC Stars), Maya (First Time PaaMer) and one shy PaaMer thought about this dark comedic family drama.

Choose three words to describe the movie.

Julia: Poignant, Authentic, Depressing

Maya: Creative, Touching, Inspiring

Anonymous: Shocking, Wonderful, Cute

Jenna: Realistic, Funny, Awkward

What was your favorite scene? Bonus: Why? **SPOILER ALERT!**

Julia: The very end where everything has gone to hell but Maggie and Milo buy their fish and remain hopeful for the future.

Maya: When the siblings were on laughing gas and had a bonding experience.

Anonymous: When Milo saved Maggie because it proved their relationship with one another after 10 years [apart].

Jenna: Maggie’s phone call to Milo, it showed how much she cared about her brother.

Would you recommend this to a friend? Why or why not?

Julia: Yes! It is so honest and charming.

Maya: Yes, it’s very funny and inspiring.

Anonymous: Of course I would, it shows what a true relationship is between siblings.

Jenna: I would recommend this to a friend because it’s an honest story with heart. It’s a film that people can relate to.
