It’s a New Year, which means a New PaaM! This month, we looked to the future in three far-out flicks. Read on to see what our choice was!

Here were the choices:

And the winner was…

Isle of Dogs
PG | 1| 2018

Here’s what the teen audience had to say…

FINAL RATING: 7 out of 8 slices

Every PaaM night, we ask our teens to give us their honest reviews of the winning movie. We then select voices that capture the range of opinions and critiques. Read what Colleen, Yujia, Jessy and Charlotte, and Melaney had to say about this divisive skater film.

Choose three words to describe the movie.

Colleen: Heart warming, talented, necessary

Yujia: Beautiful, fluid, meaningful

Jessy and Charlotte: Heartfelt, surprising, complex

Melaney: Funny, heartwarming, interesting

What was your favorite scene? Bonus: Why? **SPOILER ALERT!**

Colleen: When the stray dog and the young boy bond for the first time. It was an accurate portrayal of the way people learn to trust each other.

Yujia: When Spot saves Atari and Chief and the dogs manage to escape, because it was action-heavy and climactic for the story.

Jessy and Charlotte: When Atari picked up the runt puppy and fed him. It was very sweet to see the progression from the puppy’s dad caring for Atari to Atari caring for the puppy in turn.

Melaney: When Atari decides with his classmates the penalties for dog mistreatment–it was funny and added a nice final touch to the movie.

Would you recommend this to a friend? Why or why not?

Colleen: Well thought out movie, amazing stop motion, I would see it again with my friends.

Yujia: Yes, because it’s a wonderful stop motion movie that is very meaningful politically and very humorous and wholesome with dogs.

Jessy and Charlotte: I would recommend this to a friend because it was a very well-developed idea and a unique concept. I also loved the detail and thought put into the animation.

Melaney: Yes, the group was funny and I had a good time watching the movie it’s fun and a great experience (free pizza and a movie at a beautiful library with great people!)
