We started off the month of June with a Pizza and a Movie Night full of Animation Innovation.

Here were the choices:

And the winner was…

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

PG | | 2018

Here’s what the teen audience had to say…

FINAL RATING: 7.5 out of 8 slices (Like last month’s Lady Bird, teens also LOVE Spider-Man, this is fact.)

Every PaaM night, we ask our teens to give us their honest reviews of the winning movie. We then select voices that capture the range of opinions and critiques. Read what Mauricio, Camila, Akilah, and Fang had to say about the coming-of-age story.

Choose three words to describe the movie.

Mauricio: Innovative, emotional, action-packed

Camila: Thoughtful, suspenseful, complex

Akilah: Colorful, relatable (for some parts), entertaining

FangImpacting, surprising, saturated

What was your favorite scene? Bonus: Why? **SPOILER ALERT!**

Mauricio: There are so many scenes to choose from, but my personal favorite was Dr. Octopus’s reveal because the build to that reveal was so subtle in just those few seconds and she seems like she cares about Spider-Man’s well-being until she reveals her true colors and her voice and movements are very creepy.

Camila: My favorite scene was when Miles and his uncle were in the alley while Miles’s dad was looking at them because it shows the complexity of the characters as well as their relationships.

Akilah: My favorite scene was towards the end when Miles was acting as Spider-Man and spoke to his dad. This was my favorite because he was able to finally profess his love for his dad without being forced.

Fang: The moment he was holding onto Peter B. Parker before letting him go falling back, it’s kind of like a metaphor: instead of running away from fear, he faces it and is reborn.

Would you recommend this to a friend? Why or why not?

Mauricio: Yes, because it is a unique movie. No other animated film or comic book film looks like it or incorporates that many animation styles so seamlessly. Also, the story is one a lot of teens will find relatable as it conveys the message that with great power comes great responsibility and try to live up to your potential.

Camila: I would recommend this film to a friend because it has a lot of action elements coupled with warmth between the characters, amounting to a truly heartfelt (and entertaining!) experience.

Akilah: I would recommend this to a friend because you are able to see a movie and get pizza, all for free.

Fang: Yes, because its fun and its an art that presents a different view. The aesthetics are cool too.
