And the winner was…

Girlfight

Director: Karyn Kusama
Writer: Karyn Kusama

Here’s what the teen audience had to say…

FINAL RATING: 5 out of 8 slices

Every PaaM night, we ask our teens to give us their honest reviews of the winning movie. We then select voices that capture the range of opinions and critiques. Read what Merima, Alyssa, Mauricio, and Ymorah had to say about the Sundance knockout.

Choose three words to describe the movie.

Merima: Empowering, strong, disappointing

Alyssa: Inspiring, frustrating, and unrealistic

Mauricio: Cliche, sympathetic, predictable

Ymorah: Incomplete, exhausting, captivating

What was your favorite scene? Bonus: Why? **SPOILER ALERT!**

Merima: My favorite scene was her argument with Adrian because she stood her ground and made it known that she, a girl, can fight him and fight to win.

Alyssa: My favorite scene is when Diana beat her father. The scene was unexpected and shower her strength standing up to her father. The scene showed her built up emotions towards losing her mother.

Mauricio: My favorite scene was when she beat up her father and moved out because it was kind of predestined in the film. T His was predictable, but it felt good to see her go out on her own terms.

Ymorah: My favorite scene was when Diana fought her father because it was unexpected and she had her emotions undid in this scene.

Would you recommend this to a friend? Why or why not?

Merima: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend because it has romance and shows that women can be as strong as men.

Alyssa: No, because the movie was unrealistic and the plot moved too quickly.

Mauricio: I would as long as they really enjoy sports movies or those kinds of films where someone is supposed to come out of nothing to achieve something. If they don’t, they might find it a little predictable.

Ymorah: I would recommend this movie to a friend because, although those were some parts of the movie that were missing, it still drew me in.
