This month was the You’ve Got a Friend in Me edition! Drawing inspiration from Pixar’s Toy Story, we showcased films in which very dissimilar characters manage to defy the odds to become unlikely friends.
Meet the lineup:
Woody, cowboy and favorite toy struggles to welcome Buzz Lightyear, the new action figure who believes he is an actual space ranger on a mission (Toy Story, 1995).
Charming and carefree Ferris opposite cautious and uptight (perhaps rightfully so) Cameron (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, 1986).
Young Oliver, adjusting to life after a move and his parents’ divorce & Vincent, his “misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic war veteran” neighbor turned babysitter (St. Vincent, 2014).
The teens voted and the winner was…
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
1986, 103 mins
Director: John Hughes
Stars: Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara
Ferris Bueller has an uncanny skill at cutting classes and getting away with it. Intending to make one last duck-out before graduation, Ferris calls in sick, “borrows” a Ferrari, and embarks on a one-day journey through the streets of Chicago. On Ferris’ trail is high school principal Rooney, determined to catch him in the act.
FINAL RATING: 6 out of 8 slices
We asked four teens to give you their reviews on this 80’s classic. Read what Faith & Izabella (The Newbies), Kia (Returning PaaMer), and Terrique (a formerly shy PaaMer) had to say…
How would you sum up the movie in one sentence?
Faith: A rich, snobby, lucky kid skips school & messes up his best friend’s life, but never gets caught.
Izabella: Some people always get the longer end of the stick.
Kia: Three friends take the day off in what becomes an elaborate game of cat and mouse.
Terrique: Life doesn’t always go as planned; some people are luckier than others; also, you might never know who your friends are.
Who would you recommend this movie to?
Faith: Anyone looking for a funny coming of age movie.
Izabella: People who have high patience and tolerance.
Kia: Anyone who misses their younger days.
Terrique: My friends that are very comical and like comedy.
