This month was the Oscar Night edition. In honor of the 90th Academy Awards that aired this past weekend, we focused on films that represented historic firsts in awards history and a shift towards more inclusion in the movie industry as a whole. And the choices were…

And the winner was…

Here’s what the teen audience had to say…

FINAL RATING: 7 out of 8 slices

Every PaaM night, we ask our teens to give us their honest reviews of the winning movie. We then select voices that capture the range of opinions and critiques. Read what Gia & Badiallo (First time PaaMers), Francesca & Sophie (The Sisters that PaaM together), and Isabella (PaaM Regular) thought about the 3-D space Oscar winning film.

Choose three words to describe the movie.

Gia: Stressful, Repetitive, Pretty
Badiallo: Intense, Empowering, Elation
Isabella: Realistic, Exciting, Scary
Francesca & Sophie: Intense, Frustrating, Nerve-wracking

What was your favorite scene? Bonus: Why? **SPOILER ALERT!**

Gia: When she was in the airlock and looked like a big baby, it was pretty and calm.
Badiallo: When she was going to give up and then she turned off all the lights and the oxygen and decided to wake up and go home after George Clooney’s character spoke to her, I liked it because it showed her not giving up. I can relate to wanting to give up sometimes but then not.
Isabella: When she was telling Kowalski about her dead daughter. It was really heartbreaking.
Francesca & Sophie: When she first gets into the ship and breathes in a fetal position because it was inspirational.

Would you recommend this to a friend? Why or why not?

Gia: No, it wasn’t riveting and I liked it but I wouldn’t watch it again.
Badiallo: Yes, I would because it is very empowering and moving, it makes the impossible seem possible.
Isabella: Yes, it changed my perspective of space and astronomy.
Francesca & Sophie: Yes, because it was good cinematography and it’s a unique story.
