Saturday morning matinees aren’t usually my thing. My friend and I, gigantic Harry Potter fans, thought we’d support our favorite wizard Daniel Radcliffe in his latest post-Harry Potter role. The Woman in Black is about a widower named Arthur Kipps who’s a lawyer who is assigned to Eel Marsh to handle property that has to be sold.

Before watching, the trailers made the movie seem like a suspenseful thriller that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Instead, I found it be a movie that had lots of hype but didn’t meet up to it’s expectations. From the beginning, a lot of parts where left to the viewer to figure out the pieces. The story wasn’t well explained and you didn’t find out many things until much later. Also, there weren’t many speaking parts. My friend summed it up as “a movie filled with dramatic stares.”
Daniel Radcliffe’s acting was on point as usual but the movie just didn’t seem to do much for me. There were parts that I half covered my eyes only to find out nothing was happening. To say it was scary is over exaggerating. The most terrified I got was when Dan’s character was searching the house and a faucet with dirty water turned on by itself. Also, the part in the trailer when he’s looking out on the marsh and the face behind him shows up, that was also jumpy. Other than that, nothing. It was suspenseful in that the music helped bring it to be interesting but nonetheless, it isn’t all the hype.
