This month was our Marvel’s Contest of Champions Edition. Marvel is leading the pack with 20 films under its belt and more on the way. We chose 3 super heroes all solid in their own right, from very different parts of the Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and put it up for vote. Here were the contenders:

It wasn’t an easy decision, but in the end only 1 champion emerged victorious…

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Director: Jon Watts

Stars: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr.

Here’s what the teen audience had to say…

FINAL RATING: 8 out of 8 slices

Every PaaM night, we ask our teens to give us their honest reviews of the winning movie. We then select voices that capture the range of opinions and critiques. Read what Mumtahina, Levi, Maxine and Kyren (First Time PaaMers) thought about Marvel’s web-slinging reboot.

Choose three words to describe the movie.

Mumtahina: Funny, Heart-warming, Suspenseful

Levi: MICHAEL, JOHN, KEATON

Maxine: Spontaneous, Warm, Worthwhile

Kyren: Exasperating, Quirky, Enchanting

What was your favorite scene? Bonus: Why? **SPOILER ALERT!**

Mumtahina: I love the scene where Peter parker sneaks into his bedroom and his really quiet and then he successfully closes the door but then the camera moves to Peter’s bed and there’s Ned in his room. It’s funny.

Levi: I enjoyed the dramatic irony and tension in the scene where Peter picked Liz up for homecoming.

Maxine: I love the ending, Aunt May is my favorite character, Her reaction is understandable. Keep it up.

Kyren: Ned saving Peter in the parking lot was definitely my favorite scene. I was so crest fallen when Peter was getting beaten in the parking lot when Ned, Peter’s right hand, saved the day by using Peter’s webslinger. Personally I really relate to Ned as a character and I love his nerdy demeanor. Easily my favorite scene in the movie.

Would you recommend this to a friend? Why or why not?

Mumtahina: Yes, I would recommend this. It’s funny and the movie really makes you care about the super hero. The acting and writing is great and definitely worth watching.

Levi: There were a few unlikeable moments where the jokes were 90’s rom-com style, but the movie was enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it.

Maxine: I would recommend this, it’s the perfect film for an unenthusiastic friend and as a teen you will empathize with the characters.

Kyren: I would recommend this movie because it excels in all aspects. The movie was extremely comedic and also contained many action-packed fights. I love how Iron Man portrayed the father figure and was captivated by Peter’s struggle to find parental figures in Tony, Aunt May and Happy. All in all, I think the movie is definitely extremely captivating and I highly recommend it.
